Hi There!

My name is Janelle Zakour and I am a registered dietitian, culinary nutrition consultant, entrepreneur and founder of Purple Carrot Nutrition Ltd.

I am registered through the Nutritionists and Dietitians Board of the Council of Professions Related to Medicine, Trinidad and Tobago. I hold a BSc. (Hons) in Human Nutrition and Dietetics and a PG Diploma in Institutional and Community Dietetics and Nutrition (with Distinction) both through the University of the West Indies. I will be pursuing a Master of Science Degree in Nutrition in 2019.

I am a classically trained pastry chef (TTHTI) and currently specialise in culinary art therapy - a merging of nutrition and food preparation.

I am the President of the Trinidad and Tobago Association of Nutritionists and Dietitians (TTANDi), acting convivium leader of Slow Food Trinidad and Tobago and a breastfeeding counsellor with The Breastfeeding Association of Trinidad and Tobago (TBATT). I have been practicing permaculture since 2011 and I am an advocate for the support of local farmers, organically grown produce and indigenous cuisine.

I have been racing competitively for most of my life which allowed me to extend my clinical practice to endurance athletes. I had been an age group competitive swimmer for my entire youth and now continue to push myself both mentally and physically through triathlon, marathon, road cycling, open water swimming and adventure racing. The personal application of holistic approaches to race preparation led to the achievement of podium success in both local and regional sporting events.

I look forward to assisting you along your journey to health!

Why the name Purple Carrot?

Purple carrots were the original colour of cultivated carrots until the 17th century. The modern day orange carrot was not cultivated until mutant strains of the purple carrot were selectively bred into the sweet, orange variety that is so common today. The objective behind the name is to bring people back to the original ways of eating through tailored counselling and practical education.

At Purple Carrot Nutrition, we believe in complete holistic wellness, which encompasses not only the principles of nutrition, but a balance of all 7 dimensions of health and wellness - physical, emotional, occupational, environmental, intellectual, social and spiritual.
